Mannat & Devotional Traditions

A vow made with sincerity, and kept with gratitude.

What is mannat

Mannat is a vow: a prayer made with a promise attached, such as to offer a chadar, feed people or give in charity if the prayer is answered. It rests on sincerity, hope and gratitude, and it is a personal matter between the person and Allah.

Making and fulfilling a vow

Ask the Khadim about local customs before you make or fulfil a vow. Keep your promise within your means. Many people fulfil vows through a chadar, niyaz or giving to those in need.

A note of honesty

No offering guarantees an outcome. Mannat is an act of devotion, not a transaction. Outcomes rest with Allah alone.

Questions you may wish to ask

If you are unsure of local customs, these questions are a good place to begin with the Khadim.

  • What customs are usually followed here?
  • Is there a usual way to fulfil a vow?
  • What arrangements exist for niyaz or offerings at present?
  • Is there anything I should know before I come?
